Lila Seling-Mabo for Blackwater and Hawley
"I will be a champion of local services. I believe in equality. Let us work together."
My name is Lila Seling-Mabo and I came to the U.K. 20 years ago. I have lived in Fleet for the past ten years with my family; I love the area and feel safe and secure here.
Before I came to the country I worked as a Headteacher in a primary school in Nepal. Since being in the U.K. I have worked hard to achieve a BSc. (Hons), whilst employed as a Dental Nurse. I love studying and encourage my three children to value education. In my spare time I undertake social work, and I am also coordinator of The Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community Women’s Forum. This voluntary office provides free advice for those residents who are seeking help.
I care deeply about cuts to care in the community for the elderly, and especially for those who are suffering from dementia and who wish to remain independent in their own homes. I am also passionate about the environment, education and lowering crime. One of my main priorities if I am elected will be to work towards a more comprehensive use of current facilities in a more holistic approach. For example, multi-purpose centres would be able to:
- provide activities for teenagers that will engage them
- ensure more creative day centre facilities
- safe-guard free school meals and more breakfast centres
- create more flexible free nursery places, especially for one-parent families.
I would particularly promote affordable housing, for first-time buyers and those residents who require a flexible housing programme with a range of options, to cater for a more mobile generation.
